Verizon’s Xperia Play has received a new update that adds a couple of important enhancements, but also adds a bit more bloatware. To start, VZ Navigator and Video On-Demand have been pre-installed. New patent reveals Google design for slide-out, QWERTY style phone

Google's designs for their prized Nexus line (Nexus One, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus) have all followed the standard candybar-style. However, the latest from the rumor mill (or patent mill, as it were) is layouts for a slide out, QWERTY style device. We here at AndroidGuys are reminded of the HTC Dream, the original Android handset, in these pictures. There are several different slide out mechanism plans, including a scissor-hinge, sprint & stabilizing link, as well as a serpentine … [Read more...]

Huawei was the first company to bring Android 3.2 on a seven-inch slate to the mainstream with the MediaPad, and now it has released an official Ice Cream Sandwich for the device. The 329MB download brings a seemingly stock Android experience, as well as all of the enhancements and benefits of ICS along with it. Barnes and Noble and Microsoft ‘Nook up’ for digital joint venture

. This is big news: Until now, Barnes and Noble was at odds (lawsuits) with Microsoft over its Android-based Nook software. Today, the two companies announced a Digital Joint Venture. While the press release does not say so specifically, it would appear that Barnes and Noble might abandon Android as its future eReader OS. Moreover, this would seem to put the previous patent litigation behind the two companies. Barnes and Noble announced its intentions to spin off its digital arm in … [Read more...]

There comes a time in every person's life when he or she must decide what to do with the time they've been given on earth. Will it be used to benefit mankind, or to destroy it? Lookout Gets Real (Time) With Anti-Malware Protection, Offers File System And Install Monitoring

If you use an anti-spyware/anti-malware client on your device, then there's little doubt that you've tried Lookout at one time or another. While it is definitely one of the most well-known and popular anti-malware clients for Android, it has always had one huge shortcoming, in my opinion: lack of SD card scanning and real-time application monitoring for side-loaded apps. That changes today, however, as the Lookout team has finally added these two crucial features to the array of … [Read more...]
