I’ve been waiting for something like the Sony Ericsson Liveview for quite some time and am extremely excited that it will soon be out in the United States. It will work with any Android Phone, has an SDK so devs can build interesting apps that work with it, and its already got a bunch of downloads available such as SportyPal to track your fitness endeavors. We told you about the Liveview a couple days ago but wanted to share the promo video Sony Ericsson just posted: I have a review … [Read more...]

If you’re in the UK and eager to get your hands on the Motorola XOOM, it’s just been announced that you’ll be able to grab the Wi-Fi only XOOM from Best Buy, Carphone Warehouse, and Dixon’s retail. No mention of price was made, but Q2 was the timeframe provided, meaning it’ll be available by the end of June at the latest. I would expect a much earlier release. The XOOM should be a pretty big hit and the Chief Commercial Officer went so far as to say that 2011 will be the year of the … [Read more...]

HTC Flyer Announcement Video:

If you missed the HTC event at Mobile World Congress, you missed their announcement of 5 new phones and the HTC Tablet – the company’s first Android Tablet. It’s a landmark announcement for HTC and you can watch it below: I was personally disappointed in the HTC Flyer and felt the company should have waited until they had Android 3.0 running on the device before they announced it and showed it off. To me, launching with 2.X and claiming it will get 3.0 isn’t good enough. Others … [Read more...]

You may notice it’s a little more curvy than the Droid Incredible, that’s not all that got changed though. The Incredible S got tweaked a bit from it’s original state. Now featuring a 4″ Super LCD screen, front facing camera, it’s now GSM capable, and has more RAM available. It did lose it’s 8GB flash memory but I’m sure it’ll work out, it has a microSD slot after all. HTC Incredible S Quick Specs: 4″ Super LCD display 1GHz Snapdragon processor with 768Mb of … [Read more...]

Alcatel’s looking to bring affordable Android devices to Europe with their OneTouch series. We stopped by their humble abode here at Mobile World Congress just to see what type of value they provide for their customers. There were three phones on hand starting with the OneTouch 990. Alcatel calls this their flagship Android handset. It has a 3.5 inch capacitive display, Android 2.2, a 5 megapixel camera, a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, and Alcatel’s custom user interface on top. … [Read more...]

Samsung Galaxy Mini, Fit, Gio, Ace: Hands-On at MWC

5b070__mini

Samsung unveiled four entry-level Android handsets last month – the Mini, Fit, Gio and Ace – and we got our grubby hands on them for the first time at Mobile World Congress. None of these devices will blow you away but they’re the type of offering I’d suggest to a first time smartphone user who doesn’t want to be bothered with the Android learning curve and a huge piece of hardware in their pocket. Want an introductory Android that does a lot more than your current phone and the … [Read more...]

c0e61__sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-preview-150x150

At Sony Ericsson’s booth at Mobile World Congress, aside from great new Android handsets like the Xperia Play and Xperia Arc and great accessories like the LiveView, they also have a neat little demo set up showing off their Exmor R camera sensor technology. It is designed to be a superior camera for low-light situations, and their demo involving a series of blacked out boxes had some pretty unbelievable results. Shooting through a tiny hole in the front, the Exmor R brought out color … [Read more...]

Build Your Dreams Show Their Androids at MWC

418e5__byd-150x150

A company I’ve never heard of – BYD (Build Your Dreams) – was at Mobile World Congress showing off their wares and I thought I’d pass along the memo. Interestingly enough the company started in the battery industry, got into cell phones, then jumped into Automobiles – they sold 500,000 autos in Asia last year – and finally have been exploring renewable energy. But since you’re interested in Android, take a look: These aren’t very high powered handsets, but as you can … [Read more...]
