“XPERIA Play” Launching in the Spring?

At this point any launch date is pure speculation as Anyano Higuchi, Sony spokesperson said: “The report isn’t based on anything that we have announced, we do not comment on rumor or speculation”. Thankfully, this is Phandroid and the best part of our job is commenting on rumor and speculation.

Hopefully we will see the official unveiling at this year’s CES in Las Vegas. Unfortunately this device has played the smoke and mirrors game leaving us with little information about its intended purpose, outside of looking like the PSPgo, since we were told this device isn’t meant to be interpreted as a Playstation device.

Verizon launching the HTC Merge Thursday, November 18th?

verizon

Given the hype around yesterday’s Web 2.0 event, it looks like Droid-Life ran a story pegging Thursday, November 18th as the newly suspected launch date of the HTC Merge. The HTC Merge is that sexy full-QWERTY slider that many of you have forgotten about, and while many rumors surrounding this device listed a November 11th launch date, it looks like we have a new rumor that pegs a November 18th date for the unveiling of this HTC world phone.

Features of the HTC Merge include:

  • Android 2.2
  • HTC Sense UI
  • 5-Megapixel camera
  • World roaming capabilities
  • full-QWERTY slide out keyboard

If you check out the image below, it looks like Verizon is planning on launching the HTC Merge and re-launching the HTC Droid Incredible. We must also point out that this is the first time that the HTC Merge has been labeled as a DROID handset, we’re a little confused with the previous leaks showing the Bing search application.

What are your thoughts about the HTC Merge?

Cellebrite listing shows HTC Merge, launching Soon?

The HTC Merge has just about shown up everywhere, except on the shelf and with this latest Cellebrite sighting we know that the device is just around the corner, with the soft launches of the Motorola Droid 2 Global and Motorola Droid Pro, do you think Verizon will silently toss out this full-QWERTY slider to the wolves? We expect an official launch of this device within the next few days or possibly next week, do you all agree with that timeframe?

Lenovo Launching LePad in the US Next Year

China-based Lenovo Group’s Chief Executive Yang Yuanqinq has expressed plans to bring the Lenovo LePad to the United States. This follows interest from the American market after Lenovo showed off their unique user interface for Android and the detachable hardware QWERTY keyboard that you can get with their phone offering, the LePhone.

lenovo-u1-hybrid1

They’d be butting heads with some rather large players here in the states. Most worthy of mention is Apple, of course, who is currently dominating the market with their iPad. Samsung in Korea just introduced a nice option on the Android front, of course, with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and Blackberry’s Playbook tablet could be a sleeper hit once RIM is finally ready to release it.

And if they’re willing to bring a tablet to the table, we don’t see why they wouldn’t bring their Android-based phone out, as well. Let’s hope we hear more about that come early 2011.

Droid Pro Presale coming Nov. 9th, Launching the 18th; Galaxy Tab Dummy Unit, Continuum Accessories Arrive

A round of Verizon news for you this evening. First up, Android Central’s received a tip that the Motorola Droid Pro will be available for pre-sale starting November 9th and will go on until the 17th. Two days after that – the 19th – will be its official launch date. (Folks who pre-order it will receive it ahead of the in-store launch starting November 10th and 11th.) No pricing to be had yet, still, but we don’t expect there to be any surprises.

The Samsung Continuum and the Samsung Galaxy Tab also seems to be headed our way soon. The first dummy units for the Galaxy Tab have been spotted in the while, and the Continuum’s accessories are also sitting out and about. Still no announcement for the latter, but I don’t think Verizon’s going to be holding a parade for it. Or will they? [Droid-Life]
